Rollstock RA200: Changing the Rotary Knife Assembly
“With expert in-house technicians, JVR understands every nook and cranny of these thermoforming machines.”
The rotary knife assembly on a rollstock packaging machine is essential for optimal function. As a part of regular maintenance, replace the blades for high quality thermoformed packaging.
Despite the massive, complex appearance of a rollstock, this task is simple. Once the user knows how to properly replace the rotary knife assembly, it can take less than a minute.
In this tutorial, we replace a four blade rotary knife with a three blade rotary knife.

Items Needed
- Replacement rotary knife assembly.
- Safe location for old rotary knife where it will not roll.
Replacement Steps
1) Remove the rotary knife guard covering the rotary knife assembly.
2) Gently lift the old rotary knife assembly up and out from the rollstock machine.

Steps 3-6 are for switching from a four-blade to a three-blade rotary knife assembly.
3) Direct your attention to the two L-shaped metal pieces (adjustable rottary knife guides/track) on your rollstock that make contact with the blades.
4) Look underneath the adjustable rotary knife guide/track and locate the screw heads holding them in place.
5) Unscrew and remove one of the guides depending on the quantity of knives on the replacement assembly.
6) Slide the remaining guide close to where it should be. This is a rough estimation.

7) Take the new rotary knife assembly and gently put it into position on the rollstock.
8) Fine adjustment: Line up the guide with the blades on the new rotary knife assembly. Then, tighten the bottom screw to fasten it in place.
9) Place rotary knife guard back over rotary knife assembly.
10) Enjoy production runs with fresh, new replacement blades.
