How to Change Vacuum Pump Oil: JVR Vac100
“change the vacuum pump oil to keep that vacuum pump, the heart of your Vac100, performing optimally for years to come!”
In addition to providing unmatched vacuum sealing services, the Vac100 chamber vacuum sealer is manufactured for self serviceability. No need to bring it to a mechanic just to perform a simple task you can do on your own at your convenience saving you money and time! When you go to purchase this chamber sealer, you are also opening up the doors to easy maintenance and personable service. Today, we will go over how to change the vacuum pump oil to keep that vacuum pump, the heart of your Vac100, performing optimally for years to come!

Importance of Changing the Vacuum Pump Oil

The JVR Industries VacSeries line is purposefully constructed with an oil pump as opposed to a dry piston pump found in many other vacuum sealers. Due to these oil vacuum pumps, the VacSeries chamber vacs offer tens of years of service with close to a full vacuum draw of 99.8%. Imagine this vacuum seal effectiveness as opposed to an average of one year offered by dry piston pumps with a vacuum draw of 80% using external vacuum sealers.
To get the maximum years from your vacuum sealer at optimal functioning, your JVR Vac100 will require proper maintenance. Although this is the case, the benefits of the oil pump will outweigh the few minutes you need to set aside for maintenance without a doubt!
Just like a car, if the oil is not changed after a certain amount of run time, you will notice a faster decline plus less effective vacuum sealing including a decrease in vacuum draw without setting changes.
How Often Should You Change the Vacuum Pump Oil?
Due to the importance of the oil pump to the JVR Vac machines, one of the most popular questions we get is “How often do I change the oil in my chamber sealer?” The recommendations are based on the expert advice offered by our professionals who have worked on chamber vacuum sealers for over 20 years!
Initial oil change should occur after 3 months or 150 hours of use following the purchase of the Vac100 chamber vac.
All following oil changes should take place every 6 months or after about 500 hours of use.

How Long Will It Take?

Steps to Replacing the Vacuum Pump Oil
CAUTION: Ensure the filler board plates are removed from the chamber before you begin.
Prepping the Vac100
1. Run a full 99 second vacuum cycle. Why? This gets the pump warmed up to reduce the oil viscosity making the oil thinner, maximizing drainage, and leaving the least amount of residue.
2. Select the POWER button on the Control Panel AND the POWER switch on the back of the unit.
3. Unplug the IEC cable from the back of the unit.
4. Remove the three screws securing the unit body using the Allen Key (3mm).
5. Lift the external body and use your thumb to secure the hinge mechanism to lock it in place.

Draining the Oil
6. Bring the unit to the edge of the table

7. SLOWLY unscrew the oil drain plug found on the vacuum pump using the Allen key (5mm).
8. Use your finger to pull it out the rest of the way. Be careful, the oil is going to be pretty warm

9. Tilt the unit so that all of the oil is expelled.
10. Reinstall the oil drain plug using the Allen key (5mm); DO NOT over-tighten.

Filling the Oil Pump
11. Unscrew the vacuum pump cap.
12. Drop the funnel into the fill cap.

13. Fill the pump ½ – ¾ full with VacOil-#22 via the funnel; you can see the level through the eyesight glass.
14. Screw the vacuum pump cap back onto the pump.
15. Close the external body, but do not apply the screws quite yet!
16. Run a full 99-second vacuum cycle to get the oil to the desired viscosity for optimal functioning.
17. Lift the external body to check the oil level, as you may have to top it off after running it through the pump.
18. Close the body and screw the three secure screws back on.
YOU ARE ALL SET!
