“Boneguard ensures a cost-effective way to achieve optimal puncture resistance”
Do you find that your bags or pouches are not providing enough puncture resistance? As a result, are you paying more for a thicker bag option but still experiencing leakage? Today, we will discuss the perfect solution for you! Boneguard ensures a cost-effective way to achieve optimal puncture resistance. Never worry about a torn or leaking package again plus the benefit of purchasing thinner bags.

The Role Of Boneguard In Vacuum Packaging
Vacuum packaging is a common way of storing foods that involves removing air from a plastic film package preventing reactions with any foreign object, therefore increasing shelf life and preventing freezer burn. Yet, if the product has sharper edges, a risk of puncturing the packaging is present. Consequently, fresh meat is wasted, leakage creates a mess, and overall labor costs are increased due to wasting food products and packaging.
This is where boneguard comes into play. Boneguard is the material that prioritizes maximal puncture resistance for food packaging. Essentially, boneguard is a sheet placed over the sharp edges of bone-in meats or other products before placing them into the vacuum seal bag or pouch and guaranteeing superior puncture resistance.
What Products Can Be Packaged Using Boneguard?
Boneguard is commonly used to prevent punctures caused by packaging bone-in meat products, such as pork ribs or T-bone steaks. Yet, it is constructed to withstand any food materials. For example, dry foods with sharp edges or any other product that may force its way through the pack. Boneguard is the perfect method to ensure the product stores safely with no chance of waste.
Compatibility With Vacuum Sealer Machines
Boneguard is compatible with the following vacuum sealing machines: suction, edge, or external vacuum sealers, chamber vacuum sealing machines, and thermoformer units. Whether you use pouches, vacuum seal bags, or packaging film, boneguard will enhance the barrier properties.
Benefits Of Using Boneguard To Increase Puncture Resistance
Why use boneguard instead of simply increasing the bag thickness? Increasing thickness over the whole product including the unharmful soft sections causes you to spend money on and unnecessary amount of material. Boneguard allows you to sparingly add sheets over concentrated areas that risk puncturing through the packs. Now you can purchase the lowest vacuum bag thickness along with boneguard allowing a cheaper option while increasing puncture resistance!
Additionally, pairing boneguard with bags for vacuum packaging extends the benefits of reducing overall production costs. How? Boneguard provides maximum puncture resistance and reduces the leaker rate to 1% or less. These benefits spare you from wasting bags as well as the sealed product.
Overview Of Our VacGuard Line
JVR Industries has specialized in vacuum packaging since 1972 with over 52 years of experience! We can assure you that we provide materials and supplies to assist and enhance any of your vacuum packaging endeavors. Our VacSupples line conveniently includes boneguard options through our VacGuard line!
VacGuard Options
Sizes: Various size options are available including roll widths of 4.5″ – 18″ as well as 100′ rolls and 650′ rolls providing you with multiple convenient choices.
Thickness: We carry 6 mil or 10 mil options, each reducing the leaker rate to less than 1%! Say “goodbye” to torn bags and wasting fresh foods!
Quantities: Our Ultra-Clear Boneguard (VacGuard) is available as singular 100′ rolls or in cases of 650′ rolls while the Traditional Synthetic Boneguard (VacGuard) options are available in cases of 100′ rolls.
Perforated vs. Non-Perforated: Perforated boneguard is simply manufactured with evenly measured sections divided by perforations for easy tearing as opposed to cutting the non-perforated boneguard yourself. Perforated boneguard provides an option for efficient packing while allowing you to maintain a consistent packing appearance for your customers.
Traditional Synthetic vs. Ultra-Clear EU: The function remains the same while the appearances vary. Traditional Synthetic boneguard is manufactured with a Non-Woven wax impregnated material creating the white color while Ultra-Clear boneguard is manufactured with a PVC substrate creating a clear boneguard option.
Is VacGuard Sous Vide Safe?
Do you enjoy sous vide cooking your fresh beef steak? The VacGuard line includes a sous vide safe option for home use. Check out our 100′ Ultra-Clear Boneguard EU (VacGuard) rolls that are BPA-free and do not contain harmful plasticizers. Therefore, this option is safe for sous vide cooking!
NOTE: The CASE of our Traditional Synthetic Boneguard (10 Mil) and CASE of Ultra-Clear Boneguard (6mil) are NOT SOUS VIDE SAFE.
Save By Using VacGuard In Conjunction With VacPouch!
Although VacGuard is compatible with all vacuum sealing machine models, some bag-type and bonegaurd (VacGuard) pairings are more cost-effective than others. Let’s explain. Foodsaver-type external sealers are only compatible with the more expensive embossed vacuum seal bag.
Alternatively, vacuum chamber packaging machines are compatible with the smooth texture, and therefore less expensive, chamber pouches such as our VacPouch line (visit this article to learn how you are saving with VacPouch). Believe it or not, you can save up to 28% just by switching from the 5 mil VacPouch to 3 mil VacPouch paired with VacGuard to still achieve up to 13 mil over the sharp edges!
Additionally, experience the ultimate vacuum packaging combination with the VacSeries chamber vacuum sealers that contain an oil pump which allows for the ability to remove oxygen up to 99.8% (read here to see why an oil pump makes all the difference)! With a near complete vacuum and the low oxygen permeability of the VacPouch line, your products can be stored safely with the least amount of exposure to atmospheric oxygen for an incomparable amount of time!
