Purpose of Using VacPouch/VacGuard for Vacuum Packaging
Boneguard (VacGuard) is applied in conjunction with pouches (VacPouch) for items with one singular protruding edge that could, otherwise, puncture through thin chamber vacuum pouches. Boneguard is most commonly used for bone-in meat, thus the name.
Why Not Buy Thicker Chamber Vacuum Sealer Bags?
The simple answer is that purchasing thicker chamber vacuum pouches will cost more. Why? You are paying for much more material only to ensure one sharp edge does not protrude through the pouch. With boneguard, you can use 3 mil bags that are much cheaper. Essentially, you will pay less using much less material, but still accomplish 10-13 mil thickness over that sharp edge!
How To Use VacGuard with VacPouch for Vacuum Packaging
1. Simply place a sheet of boneguard over the exposed bone or sharp edge adding an additional 6 to 10 mil!
2. Place the item with the boneguard in one of the chamber vacuum sealer bags.
3. Vacuum seal using a chamber vacuum sealer (VacSeries).
What About Items with Multiple Protruding Edges?
For items with multiple protruding edges such as ribs or rice, we suggest purchasing thicker pouches instead of using multiple boneguard sheets. This would save you time and the cost would be similar either way.
