What Is Boneguard?

“Boneguard ensures a cost-effective way to achieve optimal puncture resistance”

What Is VacGuard | VacNews

Do you find that your bags or pouches are not providing enough puncture resistance? As a result, are you paying more for a thicker bag option but still experiencing leakage? Today, we will discuss the perfect solution for you! Boneguard ensures a cost-effective way to achieve optimal puncture resistance. Never worry about a torn or leaking package again plus the benefit of purchasing thinner bags.

Vacuum packaging is a common way of storing foods that involves removing air from a plastic film package preventing reactions with any foreign object, therefore increasing shelf life and preventing freezer burn. Yet, if the product has sharper edges, a risk of puncturing the packaging is present. Consequently, fresh meat is wasted, leakage creates a mess, and overall labor costs are increased due to wasting food products and packaging.

This is where boneguard comes into play. Boneguard is the material that prioritizes maximal puncture resistance for food packaging. Essentially, boneguard is a sheet placed over the sharp edges of bone-in meats or other products before placing them into the vacuum seal bag or pouch and guaranteeing superior puncture resistance.

CASE - Extreme Duty Chamber Vacuum Shrink Bags (VacShrink)

Boneguard is commonly used to prevent punctures caused by packaging bone-in meat products, such as pork ribs or T-bone steaks. Yet, it is constructed to withstand any food materials. For example, dry foods with sharp edges or any other product that may force its way through the pack. Boneguard is the perfect method to ensure the product stores safely with no chance of waste.

VacGuard

Boneguard is compatible with the following vacuum sealing machines: suction, edge, or external vacuum sealers, chamber vacuum sealing machines, and thermoformer units. Whether you use pouches, vacuum seal bags, or packaging film, boneguard will enhance the barrier properties.

100' Roll - Ultra-Clear Boneguard

Why use boneguard instead of simply increasing the bag thickness? Increasing thickness over the whole product including the unharmful soft sections causes you to spend money on and unnecessary amount of material. Boneguard allows you to sparingly add sheets over concentrated areas that risk puncturing through the packs. Now you can purchase the lowest vacuum bag thickness along with boneguard allowing a cheaper option while increasing puncture resistance!

Additionally, pairing boneguard with bags for vacuum packaging extends the benefits of reducing overall production costs. How? Boneguard provides maximum puncture resistance and reduces the leaker rate to 1% or less. These benefits spare you from wasting bags as well as the sealed product.

JVR Industries has specialized in vacuum packaging since 1972 with over 52 years of experience! We can assure you that we provide materials and supplies to assist and enhance any of your vacuum packaging endeavors. Our VacSupples line conveniently includes boneguard options through our VacGuard line!

CASE - Ultra-Clear BoneguardCASE - Ultra-Clear Boneguard
CASE - Traditional Synthetic Boneguard

Sizes: Various size options are available including roll widths of 4.5″ – 18″ as well as 100′ rolls and 650′ rolls providing you with multiple convenient choices.

Thickness: We carry 6 mil or 10 mil options, each reducing the leaker rate to less than 1%! Say “goodbye” to torn bags and wasting fresh foods!

Quantities: Our Ultra-Clear Boneguard (VacGuard) is available as singular 100′ rolls or in cases of 650′ rolls while the Traditional Synthetic Boneguard (VacGuard) options are available in cases of 100′ rolls.

Perforated vs. Non-Perforated: Perforated boneguard is simply manufactured with evenly measured sections divided by perforations for easy tearing as opposed to cutting the non-perforated boneguard yourself. Perforated boneguard provides an option for efficient packing while allowing you to maintain a consistent packing appearance for your customers.

Traditional Synthetic vs. Ultra-Clear EU: The function remains the same while the appearances vary. Traditional Synthetic boneguard is manufactured with a Non-Woven wax impregnated material creating the white color while Ultra-Clear boneguard is manufactured with a PVC substrate creating a clear boneguard option.

BPA FREE

Do you enjoy sous vide cooking your fresh beef steak? The VacGuard line includes a sous vide safe option for home use. Check out our 100′ Ultra-Clear Boneguard EU (VacGuard) rolls that are BPA-free and do not contain harmful plasticizers. Therefore, this option is safe for sous vide cooking!

NOTE: The CASE of our Traditional Synthetic Boneguard (10 Mil) and CASE of Ultra-Clear Boneguard (6mil) are NOT SOUS VIDE SAFE.

VacPouch 500-pack

Although VacGuard is compatible with all vacuum sealing machine models, some bag-type and bonegaurd (VacGuard) pairings are more cost-effective than others. Let’s explain. Foodsaver-type external sealers are only compatible with the more expensive embossed vacuum seal bag.

Alternatively, vacuum chamber packaging machines are compatible with the smooth texture, and therefore less expensive, chamber pouches such as our VacPouch line (visit this article to learn how you are saving with VacPouch). Believe it or not, you can save up to 28% just by switching from the 5 mil VacPouch to 3 mil VacPouch paired with VacGuard to still achieve up to 13 mil over the sharp edges!

Additionally, experience the ultimate vacuum packaging combination with the VacSeries chamber vacuum sealers that contain an oil pump which allows for the ability to remove oxygen up to 99.8% (read here to see why an oil pump makes all the difference)! With a near complete vacuum and the low oxygen permeability of the VacPouch line, your products can be stored safely with the least amount of exposure to atmospheric oxygen for an incomparable amount of time!

Premium Vacuum Sealing Bags

“vacuum sealing bags that are equipped with top seal integrity and puncture resistance…”

JVR Industries has specialized in vacuum packaging since 1972 and has found the importance of supplying bag options for all our customers no matter the vacuum sealer model. Whether you own a chamber vacuum sealing unit or a Foodsaver edge vacuum seal machine, we are always stocked with vacuum sealing bags ideal for your needs!

Premium Vacuum Sealing Bags - VacNews

All packaging options we supply are BPA-free and are composed of a balanced blend of coextruded polyethylene and nylon. With over 50 years of experience, we can assure you of vacuum sealing bags that are equipped with top seal integrity and puncture resistance placing our VacFlex line as a competitor in the market.

Premium Vacuum Sealing Bags - VacNews

VacFlex bags are designed specifically for edge, suction, or external-type vacuum sealers such as those provided by Foodsaver and VacMaster due to the embossed texture. Additionally, vacuum seal bags such as VacFlex are not designed for a chamber vacuum sealer machine but are compatible. The perfect unit to own in tandem with a freeze-drier!

Foodsaver style textured roll

Unlike a chamber vacuum sealer that pulls up to 99.8% for food preservation, external vacuum sealers work to remove about 80% of all the air from vacuum sealer bags so less air surrounds the food or any other product. The seal created following the vacuum along with the vacuum seal bags’ low oxygenation rate restricts oxygen reentering.

How does this increase food storage longevity?

The more air removed, the less oxygen there is for aerobic bacteria to react with decreasing damage and moisture release. Thanks to the superior seal quality of the vacuum bags, we can ensure safe, long-term storage for your food.

Our BPA-free chamber vacuum pouches are perfect for your meal planning or packaging requirements! Manufactured with polyethylene and nylon, the chamber vacuum pouch works exceptionally for a multitude of conditions such as freezing to avoid freezer burn for an incomparable amount of time as well as hot temperatures for sous vide cooking meat or boiling. Note: We do not recommend more than 5 minutes of boiling. Read This article to learn more about cooking in pouches!

BPA-FREE-VACPOUCH-VACNEWS.jpg

Suction vacuum sealers require the use of vacuum seal bags whereas chamber vacuum sealers are compatible with either chamber pouches or vacuum sealer bags. For this reason, it is important to be aware of the difference between a chamber vacuum pouch and a vacuum sealer bag.

The main difference is the texture. Vacuum sealer bags are embossed. Consequently, they require a higher standard thickness of 4mil. A chamber vacuum pouch is smooth with no indentations and, therefore, the standard thickness is 3mil.

How does this impact you? A vacuum seal bag uses more material to manufacture due to embossment and the 4 mil standard thickness resulting in a more expensive product cost. Chamber pouches are more price-friendly since they do not require these features.

Limits Waste: If we can achieve proper communication to supply you with the right pouch size, this filters out the scenario where the pouch is too small and you will have to buy a whole new size.

Reduces Cost: Buying too large of a pouch can be quite wasteful as well. Finding that optimal size should help relieve waste and eliminate the back and forth of ordering & shipping.

VacPouch Calculate - chamber vacuum pouch buyer's guide
VacPouch Calculate - chamber vacuum pouch buyer's guide

We understand that choosing the right dimensions is complicated. We have found that calculations to choose the proper bag dimensions depend on the product’s shape. You can directly sort most food or product items into two categories of shapes to ensure the proper dimensions are selected – rectangular and singular cylindrical.

Rectangular Shaped Items

These include items such as your sirloin steaks and cheese blocks.

A simple visual demonstration is provided in the image below.

Calculating VacPouch Size - chamber vacuum pouch buyer's guide

For example, consider the average length of the steaks you package is 8″, the average width is 6″, and the average height is 1.5″.

To calculate the proper WIDTH for your bags multiply the width x height and add 1 inch (W x H + 1 inch).

Example: 6 x 1.5 + 1 = 10 inches

To calculate the proper LENGTH for your bags, add the length + height + 2 inches (L + H + 2 inches).

Example: 8 + 1.5 + 2 inches = 11.5 inches

Therefore, the closest pouch size option is 10 inches x 12 inches.

Singular Cylindrical Shaped Items

Singular cylindrical shapes include any product such as sausage links or jerky snack sticks.

A simple visual demonstration is provided in the image below.

Singular Cylindrical Shaped Product - chamber vacuum pouch buyer's guide

For example, consider packaging sausage links that have a length of 6 inches and a height of 2 inches.

To calculate the proper WIDTH for your bags multiply 1.5 times the height (H = 2 inches) and add 1 inch (1.5 x H + 1 inch).

Example: 1.5 x 2 + 1 = 4 inches

To calculate the LENGTH of your bags, add the height (H = 2 inches) plus length (L = 6 inches) plus 2 inches (H + L + 2 inches)

Example: 2 + 6 + 2 inches = 10 inches.

Therefore, the closest pouch size is 4.5″ x 12″.

What About Zipper Chamber Vac Pouches?

Easy! As stated in red on the images above, add 2 inches to the length of your product. The reason you need to add an additional 2 inches is because the header of these pouches contains the zipper, hang hole, and tear notch. The outside dimensions on these pouches can be quite deceiving since the inside dimensions diminish due to the header consuming a couple inches of product real estate.

Intuitive Design

Our chamber vacuum sealer bags are not only ordered in a variety of dimensions but in a variety of thicknesses. Refer below for a description of what conditions each bag can handle and what thicknesses might be best for your items. NOTE: “MIL” stands for 1 thousandth of an inch in thickness.

3-mil Gauge

The most common choice as they are the most cost-effective. However, they possess all of the necessary features for packaging. Although they are the thinnest, the 3 mil vacuum pouches undoubtedly are great products to package any item including liquids or solids, and can withstand extreme conditions such as sous vide cooking, freezing, and boiling for up to 5 minutes! You can also pair 3 mil with VacGuard (boneguard materials) to get access to ultimate puncture resistance and reduce cost by up to 28%! With VacGuard you now have access to a concentrated 9 mil section in your pouch! Talk about puncture resistant!

Availability: 100 packs, 500 packs, and cases. Also available in zipper options.

4-mil Gauge

Slightly thicker than our 3 mil bags and, therefore, considered a more durable, slightly higher oxygen and moisture barrier. For example, if you pack ribs with a tapered bone with a semi-protruding edge, this is are a great selection. If you find yourself storing your pouches aggressively in a chest freezer, these are the perfect combatant to punctures in these scenarios.

Availability: 100 packs, 500 packs, and cases. Also available in zipper options.

5-mil Gauge

The thickest of the vacuum pouches we carry in stock! Our 5 mil boasts extremely high puncture resistance, durability, and higher oxygen/moisture barrier. The ultimate bag against multiple protruding areas in the pouch. Multiple sharp bones in your pouch? No big deal! Use 5 mil to prevent the punctures from taking place! 5 mil gauge pouches are a great option for aggressive freezer storage as well.

Availability: 100 packs, 500 packs, and cases. Also available in zipper options.

6-7 mil Gauge

A perfect pouch for businesses! Special order 6-7 mil chamber vacuum pouches that are twice as thick as the 3 mil bags for maximum puncture resistance and oxygen/moisture barrier! And yes, our chamber vacuum sealers work great for creating the same airtight seal on these pouches. Feel free to call us at (716)206-2500 to get your quote today!

Availability: This gauge is not stocked in our warehouse, but we can custom order any size and any gauge that you wish.

How To Prevent Freezer Burn - VacNews Article

How To Prevent Freezer Burn

“Chamber vacuum sealing removes 99.8% of air to ensure that no chance for freezer burn is possible!”

How To Prevent Freezer Burn - VacNews Article

Preventing freezer burn is something we all want to achieve in our households.  Most everyone has experienced the unpleasantness of grabbing a package of pepperoni out of your freezer, anticipating a nice homemade pepperoni pizza. To your dismay, the whole bag of meat that has been freezing for longer than you had anticipated has turned a strange brown color and you know from experience it does not taste good! This is a frustrating place to be and we would like to address this first-hand.

Today, we are here to help you with the question of how you can stop this situation from happening to you if you are looking to freeze meat or any other products. Based on experience, we have found that if you invest in the right materials, damage due to freezing your product will become the least of your worries. We will walk you through a discussion of how freezer damage occurs and how JVR Industries provides the soundest way to affirm that you can freeze any of your products without forming freezer burn for an unbeatable range of time!

What is Freezer Burn - VacNews

Freezer damage usually occurs around a couple of months into freezing a product and can be spotted by the appearance of discoloration, pink striations, or ice crystals forming on the body surface of a freezing product. If you happen to not take a close enough look, you will assuredly notice the bland taste once you bite into the gritty or toughened texture of the product that had been freezing.

Freezing a product for too long without proper precautions can cause frozen spoilage. This will take effect prominently on the color, taste, texture, and aroma of the food you freeze.

Now, it is often the myth that freezer-damaged food is unhealthy to eat. This is not necessarily the case and it does not contain bacteria. With this in mind, you might be able to feed freezer-burnt meat to your animals, but to the human species, we can certainly agree that consuming this is not preferred.

What is Freezer Burn - VacNews

Food damage due to freezing occurs as a result of a process called desiccation meaning the removal of moisture. The atmosphere within a freezer is dry due to the moisture freezing. If the freezing product is exposed to this dry atmosphere, the water particles within the product want to escape to compensate for that lack of moisture. The escaping water particles end up freezing on the surface of the product to create ice crystals upon contact with the freezing temperatures and a discolored appearance as the moisture is pulled out and freezes. Generally, the slower the product freezes, the larger the water particles grow. Consequently, the bigger the size of the water particles escaping, the more cell membranes within the product break causing alterations in smell, look, and taste.

Multiple protocols exist to avoid freezer damage. We have seen that some of the most common include ensuring the temperature in the freezer is even colder than freezing temperature to minimize the amount of time it takes for the product to freeze, limiting the number of times the freezer is open which decreases the temperature causing the freezing product to thaw then have to freeze over again, and packaging food to freeze in a plastic zipper bag or storage container.

Although these protocols may be effective for a time, how would you directly address the reason freezer damaged food occurs? The answer is simple! We have found that chamber vacuum sealing is the most effective and efficient way to ensure your product does not come into contact with the dryness in the freezer, and therefore, eliminates the need for the moisture to escape the product. Chamber vacuum sealing removes 99.8% of air to ensure that no chance for freezer burn is possible! As a result, the product will maintain its moisture and not go to waste.

JVR Vac100 - Chamber Vacuum Sealer | best chamber vacuum sealer for home use
JVR Vac100 - Chamber Vacuum Sealer

Chamber vacuum sealing your product before freezing takes out up to 99.8% of the air out of the pouch ensuring the product has the least possible contact with the dry atmosphere in the freezer. While the vacuum sealer pulls close to all the air out, it also creates an airtight seal eliminating the possibility of any entering or leaving the pouch. With minimal contact and no possibility of it leaving or entering, the product is allowed to hold its moisture and maintain optimal quality!

Plastic zipper bags and storage containers may store your product for a shorter range of time. Still, the amount of space that is left within the packaging is outstanding compared to what is accomplished by a chamber vacuum sealer. This substantial difference causes a much greater risk of freezer damage using alternative options for freezing products.

Standard plastic zipper bags are not capable of being used for vacuum sealing in addition to being permeable due to the materials used to manufacture them. The likelihood of air seeping into the bag and, further, causing freezer damage is possible. Vacuum sealing using a pouch guarantees an airtight seal and eliminates that chance allowing you to freeze your product knowing the chance of freezer damage is at the minimum.

JVR Industries stands out from our competitors as we have specialized in the vacuum sealing industry since 1972. That is over 50 years of experience!

Our company prides itself on carrying chamber vacuum machines that produce results to stand out from our competitors. The chamber vacuum machines we carry, such as the Vac100 and Vac110, pull around 99.8% of air from pouches before sealing!

Considering the amount being pulled during vacuum sealing, this allows for minimal contact with the dryness within the freezer. Accordingly, the product maintains its moisture in contrast to alternative packaging options!

How To Prevent Freezer Burn - VacNews Article

We’ve Experienced & Experimented With Products In-House To Confirm!

Many of us own our own vacuum sealers and have seen the difference firsthand! Our years of service in the vacuum packaging industry have also provided lots of data and experience with freezer burn. Lastly, we recently tested our Vac100 in-house by freezing various products! Currently, we have salmon and soup that has been freezing for 2+ years. Both have no sign of freezer damage to date! They look as fresh as the day we sealed them.

Foodsaver and VacFlex

What About An External Vacuum Sealer?

Some companies may suggest the alternative of using edge, suction, and external vacuum sealers. Still, these cannot vacuum seal liquids and they remove 19.8% less air than a chamber vac with an oil pump. The chamber vacuum sealers we provide have the option to package any products containing liquids or any amount of moisture that is not provided by an external vacuum sealer. If you freeze products containing liquids, a chamber vacuum sealer is ideal.

360 West Magazine - Vac100

If you are looking to order a chamber vacuum sealer to utilize these methods, we have just the product for you! JVR Industries carries top-notch chamber vacuum sealers, such as the Vac100 or Vac110, that we have continually ensured are more than fit to produce the results you need to efficiently and effectively seal your products for freezing!

VacNews - 3 Methods of Cooking in Chamber Vacuum Pouches

3 Methods Of Cooking in Chamber Pouches

“Three methods are used to cook in your chamber vacuum pouches: boiling, microwaving, and sous vide…”

VacNews - 3 Methods of Cooking in Chamber Vacuum Pouches

Today, we are going to share some cooking methods that can be implemented when using chamber vacuum pouches. Three methods are used to cook in your chamber vacuum pouches: boiling, microwaving, and sous vide cooking. These methods provide a simple and efficient way to cook at home or to provide your customers using the chamber vacuum pouches.

You may have been informed that each method is safe to utilize as long as you follow specific protocols. Yet, a difference exists between saying you can microwave food in chamber vacuum pouches and saying it is safe to microwave food in chamber vacuum pouches.

Today, we will dive into the three methods of cooking and why JVR Industries cautions away from believing that each method of cooking is entirely safe.

BPA-FREE-VACPOUCH-VACNEWS.jpg

BPA or Bisphenol A is a chemical used for certain plastics in industrial manufacturing. BPA is safe at very low levels according to the FDA. Thankfully, our VacPouch line is completely free of Bisphenol A. Having a BPA-FREE pouch gives our customers that extra level of comfort that they are not consuming industrial chemicals at any level.

VacPouch - Perfect Blend of Polyethylene and Nylon - VacNews

What Does This Mean For Cooking?

Our vacuum pouches include materials such as polyethylene and nylon that allow them to withstand higher temperatures before they change state or even soften. Although this is the case, carefully manufactured packaging products from any company do not guarantee complete safety from plastics entering your food during microwaving. We are highly aware of the precautions taken in manufacturing to ensure your safety. However, we find not one company maintains certainty of safety even if the chances are minimal.

The methods of cooking in a vacuum chamber pouch such as our VacPouch are boiling, microwaving, and sous vide.

VacPouch | Boil-in chamber pouches

Boiling is a well-known method of cooking that involves placing vacuum-sealed food in boiling water (100°C or 212°F). This method is simple and efficient due to the high temperature of the water. The materials within the pouches are made to withstand the boiling temperatures for about 20 minutes before the possibility of plastics contaminating the food.

VacPouch - Sealed Food Lasts 5x Longer - VacNews

Many customers ask about the safety of microwaving food in a vacuum pouch. Some companies suggest poking a hole or cutting a corner before microwaving the product to avoid steam build-up or the possibility of the pouch bursting.

Cutting Corners - VacNews

Why Not Cut Corners?

Cutting the corner off a pouch won’t ensure that the product does not reach the plastic melting point. The only reason they advise cutting the corner is so that the bag does not expand and break. The recommendation has nothing to do with making it automatically safer even if it may avoid bursting the pouch.

JVR Industries prefers to acknowledge the gray area in this method. The possibility of harmful plastics entering your food during microwaving, even if the packaging is durable, is simply not guaranteed.

VacPouch

Sous vide is a prestigious French method of cooking gaining popularity in professional kitchens as well as home cooking and you will see why!

Sous Vide Before and After

What Is Sous Vide Cooking?

Sous vide is a simple, two-step process to cook your meat professionally. First, use a chamber vacuum sealer to vacuum seal your meat product in a vacuum pouch. This removes the air from the bag and creates an airtight seal. Immerse the product in a water bath or pot of water heated to a precise “low” temperature (under 180°).

The amount of time you immerse in the meat in the “low” temperature water depends on the product. To determine specific recommendations for water temperature and cooking times to reach the desired doneness for your product, visit https://sousvidesupreme.com/pages/cooking-guides.

Benefits Of Sous Vide Cooking - VacNews

Benefits Of Sous Vide Cooking

First, our chamber vacuum pouches contain mechanical properties to withstand high temperatures. Although this is the case, sous vide provides an alternative cooking method that limits the temperatures needed to typically 180° and below. Therefore, you can ensure safety from contamination when enjoying your meal.

Preserve the desired flavor, moisture, and nutrients exceptionally. Douse the meat in seasonings or sauces and the flavor will be preserved to create a delightful surprise of the perfect steak you’ve always imagined.

Sous vide cooking also allows even cooking. Vacuum sealing ensures the hot water is in direct contact with every millimeter of surface area to provide precise and controlled cooking for consistent results.

Meal planning made easy! Since a majority of the sous vide process involves slow cooking in water over time, minimal time needs to be set aside for hands-on prep of the perfect steak.

If that isn’t enough, the best part is this process can be accomplished right from your countertop if the right supplies are provided. No need to pay extra to get the perfect steak at a restaurant when you can acquire equivalent results in your kitchen at a low cost!

To utilize these methods, you will need a chamber vacuum sealer to vacuum seal bags that package the desired products. JVR Industries carries top-notch chamber vacuum sealers such as the Vac100 or Vac110 that are more than fit to produce the results you need to efficiently and effectively seal your products.

We stand out from our competitors as we have specialized in the vacuum sealing industry since 1972. That is over 50 years of experience!

Some companies may suggest alternative external vacuum sealers with an edge and suction, but these cannot seal smooth textured chamber pouches. Plus, a chamber vacuum sealer provides the option to package liquids which is not provided by an external vacuum sealer.

Random Repeat VS Registered Printed Film

Registered vs Random Repeat Rollstock Film

Registered vs Random Repeat Custom-Printed Rollstock Film

Today, we will discuss the differences between registered and random repeat custom-printed films for rollstock packaging. Our customers often seek further clarification on these terms and how they compare. Let’s explore the characteristics of these two types of custom-printed thermoforming packaging films.

Forming Film PRS Mini Steaks - Rollstock Thermoforming Packaging Film
Registered Print Example

Registered print is a straightforward printing method where the artwork repeats at the same distance as the cutting tool. For instance, if the cutting occurs every 200mm, the artwork will repeat in 200mm increments on the rollstock unit. This type of printing is ideal for customers with larger volume orders requiring more information on each package. Registered print has a visually appealing quality and is similar to labeling. Customers transitioning from labels to registered print find the process seamless. However, this type of print demands meticulous attention to detail and precise operation of the rollstock thermoforming equipment. It requires an operator with a keen sense of quality.

REGISTERED PRINT PROS:

MORE AESTHETICALLY PLEASING

ABLE TO FIT MORE INFORMATION ON A SINGLE PACKAGE

SEAMLESS TRANSITION FOR EX-LABEL CUSTOMERS

REGISTERED PRINT CONS:

REQUIRES HIGHER ATTENTION TO DETAIL

ONLY CAN USE ONE PRINT FOR ONE LOT OF PRODUCT

Random repeated custom-printed rollstock film is when you set up artwork to repeat in a patterned sense. The artwork does not seem random, but the cutting time is random. For example, your artwork could repeat at 200mm, but your unit could be cutting your film every 120mm. Your final package will seem as if the print is random, but ultimately it is your cutting that is random relatively speaking. See the reference image where the film behind the sealed product has a repeating leaf.

RANDOM REPEAT PRINT PROS:

REQUIRES LESS ATTENTION TO DETAIL WHEN RUNNING ROLLSTOCK

CAN USE SINGLE PRINT FOR MULTIPLE LOTS OF PRODUCT

RANDOM REPEAT PRINT CONS:

LESS AESTHETICALLY PLEASING

Registered vs Random Repeat
Random Print Film Comparison

Random repeat print is quite simple to set up. Typically you need to set up per the width of your roll multiplied by how many lanes are being printed. As far as the advance, you will need the plate size from the printer. All of this information is readily available upon request.

Registered film artwork.
Registered Film Comparison

The registered print will need to be set up off of the die file provided by the manufacturer of your thermoforming vacuum packaging machine. You need pocket length, pocket width, pack width, top film (non-forming) width, and advance length (repeat length). Usually, the die file will provide all of this information making it easier to forward off to JVR Industries. We require our customers to only send a 1-up file and we can step out the artwork and apply the required distortions for proper printing.

JVR Industries can use pre-existing files such as .ai, .pdf, .psd, and .jpeg. The file type we require for your specific job depends on what you require of us. If you are looking to just print the file you have, then we need a workable file such as an adobe illustrator file or illustrator pdf file. In the event that your text needs to be edited, we will need the text to be live in the file.

Looking for a brand-new design? No problem! You can leave that up to our in-house graphic designer/prepress technician to tend to. Lastly, if you are considering a recreate, we need any file type. Flattened files like .jpeg might work but depends on the specific scenario. Please feel free to reach out to andrew@jvrinc.com for any custom printed rollstock thermoforming vacuum packaging film requests.

Selecting the type of printing is all dependent on your personal preferences and needs!

Typically, random repeat printed bags only use one color of ink like black. It is not uncommon for customers to use this for things like bio-hazard, recycling, or suffocation warning symbols. Often times this type of printing is so our customers can meet the standards or requirements in their industry.

The basics of vacuum sealing pouches include understanding cycle times, how a good vacuum seal looks, and methods to ensure seal integrity. Let’s get into chamber vacuum pouch sealing basics!

In order to vacuum seal food, it’s important to know what a good heat seal looks like to ensure your product is packaged to last. A good seal has a complete cross-hatch pattern that shows up across the entire mouth of the pouch. If there are any breaks in the weld, you most likely have a leak. Please note that the package contents that arrive with your unit include example pouches with perfect welds. This is also the case when you order a retort bar assembly. The example pouches are sealed with our recommended seal and cool times to serve as a reference.

Mouth Fold

Mouth Fold

When sealing products, if moisture or debris is left behind on the mouth of the pouch, there will be seal adhesion problems and poor seal integrity. To keep the mouth of the pouch clean, simply fold the mouth of the bag out of the way, about two to three inches down the pouch. Throw in your product, unfold the mouth of the pouch, and seal. This simple trick will help ensure great seal integrity on moisture and debris-filled products.

Prevent Wrinkles

Prevent Wrinkles

The second method would be to prevent wrinkles from taking place at the mouth of the pouch during the sealing process. Here are a couple ways to prevent wrinkles. 1) Use filler plates to level your product with the seal bar assembly. 2) Keep your product 1-2″ away from the mouth of the pouch so the “hills and valleys” in your product do not show up in the mouth of the pouch.

Inspect Weld

Inspect Weld

Visually inspect the weld on your pouch. Specifically, look for a continual and consistent cross-hatch pattern across the mouth of the bag. If there are tiny blemishes in the weld of your pouch, use the next seal integrity test to determine if your seal is appropriate.

Resistance Test

Resistance Test

Lastly, perform a resistance test. Go to the mouth of the pouch where the seal is and simply pull the two sides of the pouch away from each other. If there is no give, the adhesion of the weld is set and there is good vacuum seal integrity.

A common issue you may notice when sealing vacuum bags is a break in the seal. This typically occurs when the heat strip is broken. To fix this issue, simply replace the heat strip on your seal bar or replace the seal bar assembly entirely. Another reason you may have a break in the seal is that there’s a wrinkle in the pouch as previously discussed.

Blowouts

If you have pouches that are blowing out, ensure that you are using our standard 3.0-second cool time. During a cycle, the heat strip gets the pouch up to melting point to create a seal. The cooling cycle helps get the pouch below melting point so it can be released properly.

Chamber vacuum pouches that are durable and strong are now available to be used at home. These industrial strength bags will help keep your vacuum-sealed food fresh longer than traditional packaging, making it an extremely cost-effective alternative to embossed vacuum sealer style bags. Prevent freezer burn and achieve an airtight seal with our chamber vacuum pouches. Great to use for meal planning, and storing your deer meat, fish, or soups!

Tons of Applications

Sealing any solid or liquid product with a vacuum sealer machine, these bags were created to freeze and refrigerate! Preserve food and increase shelf life to decrease food waste. Additionally, these pouches can withstand being boiled for up to 20 minutes, allowing you to place them directly in boiling water. The heat resistance of the bag makes it great for sous vide cooking as well as for storage applications.

With our chart, gain extra assurance you are buying the right product the first time!
